The charitable impetus came from Anna Donaldson, a junior from Birmingham, Alabama. Anna encouraged fellow students throughout the college to donate money for the purchase of items such as socks, gloves, and foodstuffs to fill holiday gift bags. "I' ve seen homeless people on the streets this past semester, and I felt I just couldn' t go home without doing something to help them," she said.
The students have responded generously, and Anna and some of the other Study Abroad students will deliver the donations to a women' s shelter in center city Budapest before leaving for their own homes across the US. The students' study abroad experience has obviously also been a "living abroad" experience as it is clear that, over the past four months, Budapest has become their hometown.
