ART 3310 Watercolor

Course description: Atelier work in the techniques and problems of watercolor throughout the semester. The professor will demonstrate correct technical solutions, explain the rules of color-dynamics and the construction of perpective in the medium.

Required materials: The teacher provides the necessary prints, copies, reproductions of paintings and the compositional themes.

Grading and attendance: Grading will be based on attendance and an attentive, sincere effort. Attendance to every session is expected.

Week 1 Lecture and demonstration about the technics, tools, appliances of watercolor painting. Types of paints, brushes, papers etc.
Week 2 Lecture on history of watercolor painting. Styles and methods of compositions. Painting on dry and wet paper
Week 3 Color-dynamics. Role of colors in compositions
Week 4 Presentation of simple organic and geometric forms
Week 5 Simple landscapes. Examining the situation of the horizon line.
Week 6 Types of trees. Row of trees in streets.
Week 7 Compositions created by flowers or other objects
Week 8 Peasants houses, simple group of buildings
Week 9 Townscapes, streets, squares in compositions
Week 10 Interiors, historical and modern examples
Week 11 Presentation of water surfaces surrounded by buildings
Week 12 Presentation of furniture, connection to human figures
Week 13 Human figures in interiors. Full color presentation
Week 14 Exhibition of the paintings created during the semester
