ENG 1101—Introduction to College Writing

The aim of this course is to give you help in your academic work by developing your reading and writing skills. This means that writing will be treated as part of a more integral work; reading, interpreting and discussing various written materials by other authors; analyzing issues; forming and communicating your own opinions and ideas. The texts will vary in subject, genre and style, and will often serve as a model or a starting point for your own writing. You will be also asked to research and discuss issues of your own choice and interest, to be presented in class as well as in a written form.

You will be required to
  • actively take part in the lessons
  • do the required reading (given in handout form)
  • complete and hand in your written assignments, in printed form or by email

Course evaluation will be based on the following criteria:
  • Preparation – participation 20%
  • Written assignments 50%
  • Midterm paper 10%
  • Final paper 20%

  • Week 12-13.The argument essay Assignment 5. (Argument paper)
  • Week 14. Analyzing issues – Preparation for your final paper.
  • Exam week Final exam Presentation of your final paper.
 
Please remember that attendance is mandatory. More than 3 absences may lead to grade reduction, more than 5 unexcused absences will result in failing the class.)
