In the last week of April, a group of faculty referees read all submissions to the McDaniel Research Prize, Spring semester 2009. Topics ranged from international relations to literary analysis. There were five submissions:
-
Nadia Artiomenco
Chinese-American Immigration, The Symbolism of the Statue of Liberty, and the Notion of the "Back Door" in Gish Jen' s Typical American.
-
Chelsea Blair
Challenging The Messenger
-
Daniel Egbert
The Downfall of Sovereign Self-Interest, and the Rise of Collective Security
-
Clare Farrell
Television: Then and Now
-
Dessislava Krasteva

Finalists Nadia Artiomenco, Chelsea Blair, and Daniel Egbert each gave 20-minute presentations before a jury of faculty members and students, and Nadia' s combined paper and presentations scores left her the winner. Congratulations are owed to all writers for fine, interested papers enjoyed by the referees and audience present at the semester' s last Open Forum.
