McDaniel College Budapest kicked off the 2012-2013 academic year with its traditional Opening Convocation and Danube River dinner cruise.
Guests of Honor at the Opening Convocation included Dr. Roger Casey, President of McDaniel College, Dr. Ferenc Somogyi, former Foreign Minister of the Republic of Hungary, and Dr. Attila Horváth, General Director of College International.
After a presentation of the flags of our international students, the national anthems of Hungary and the United States, and a word of welcome from the Dr. László Frenyó, Dean of the Budapest Campus of McDaniel College, President Casey delivered the keynote address in which he urged McDaniel' s newest students to take advantage of the upcoming four years, and to stay "curious"—to seek all the knowledge that appeals to them in any way as they pursue the liberal arts. He ended his speech with a quote from Eminem, that translates roughly to carpe diem.

The Convocation ceremony was followed by a dinner cruise on the Danube River. Visiting the Budapest campus was McDaniel College Trustee Barbara Thomas, a leading organizer for Habitat for Humanity in Bratislava, and a figure engaged in the life of both the Budapest campus and the home campus in Westminster, Maryland.
