Come have lunch, take a break from exams, and enjoy student Hollen Vickery' s talk and slide presentation on what is missing in contemporary documentary photography: the "humanity of people." Thursday, December 18, 11:45-12:15, Room 224.
Hollen' s abstract:
The Human in the Photograph
Photography is evolving. Photographers still take pictures of people but their primary focus is no longer on what it once was: the humanity of people. In this presentation I will explore contemporary photographers, documentary photographers--both modern and historical--and the generality of humans in photographs. This presentation will also discuss the relationship between the photographer and their subject, the value of the photograph through the different perspectives it is viewed, and the ethical implications of turning humans into marketable subjects.
